cookies for a neighbor

We visited our neighbor, Glenda last night. I heard at church that she had fallen so I thought we should go see if she was ok. Plus, Dan is her home teacher. Plus, Danny and Cate love visiting neighbors. Cate calls Glenda "Lala." She also calls Cinderella "Lala." It's very cute.

It turns out that Glenda is indeed ok. She's got a few black eyes and some scratched-up glasses though. I knew some cookies would ease her pain. They always do. I asked her daughter what kind I should make and she said oatmeal raisin. Luckily, I had all the ingredients at home.

I used this recipe. They turned out yummy. I only ate the half of Cate's that she didn't want. (With less than a week to go until the grand finale of Forty by Forty, I've got to be really careful. I had to taste them though. I can't go delivering yucky cookies to my neighbors.)

Danny asked if he could eat one. I gave it to him. He looked it over and said, "Hmmm. What's in there?" I told him there were raisins and oatmeal inside. He took a bite and asked, "Um, Mama, could you put a chocolate chip on it?"

That's my boy. Only three and already he knows that chocolate makes everything better.

We delivered the cookies this morning. Glenda was happy to have the cookies. The kids were happy to go visiting again. I was happy to have the kids and the cookies out of my house. (The rest of the cookies went to a friend and to Judy's house. I can't have them here tempting me.)

When we were chatting last night, Merrill (Glenda's hubby) asked me if I've compared Cate's baby pictures to my dad's. He thinks Cate looks exactly like my dad did when he was little. So I found some old pictures of my dad this morning. Here's one taken in 1945. Dad was about 2 years old. Kind of where Cate is now.

What do you think? I don't see it. Maybe it'll take a different picture to convince me.

(That's my dad in the dark overalls. Merrill's the other little kid.)

I agree. Oatmeal cookies should have chocolate chips in them. NOT raisins. Blech.

Good job on the charity there, my friend. Need to follow your example around here. I only make cookies for MYSELF. :-)

I don't think those pictures look anything like Cate OR your dad! I do think she looks like your dad in real life though ...

Yum! I love those oatmeal cookies. You packaged them beautifully, too! (You should post some of those pretty pictures on the make happy flickr group. It's lonely.) :)
