Danny and I were having a good time breaking in (and breaking into pieces) a new tub of sidewalk chalk. I drew Grandpa with pink glasses and spiky green hair. Danny drew a picture of his daddy. It was mostly just scribbles that he later smudged with his hands.
I started to write Danny's name in big blue letters. I said each one out loud as I wrote, pausing for a second in case he wanted to tell me the next letter. After I wrote the second N he said, "Y!"
It's about time he figured out how to spell his name. He's been reading since he was four and a half months old. I was starting to get a little worried that his teacher would have to actually teach him something when he got to kindergarten.
Phew. What a relief.
