somebody had a birthday

This kid turned 5. I'm not even going to apologize for being so far behind in documenting our precious lives that I'm a month late mentioning this grand occasion. It is what it is. And she's 5 now.

I was away at girls camp and missed seeing her sleepy face on the morning of her birthday. I feel kind of bad about that but again, it is what it is. She was being spoiled by my good friend and her family so I know she felt special even without her parents there.

I gave my friend a few small wrapped gifts for Cate to open in the morning. This paint set was one of them. She came home and got right to work.

After her stinky parents got showered, we headed to the splash pad with friends and cousins. It was a nice day but honestly, after being away at camp for 3 days, a nap might have been better for me. But I love my kid and watching Mommy nap wasn't her choice of fun birthday activities. Go figure.

We tried to have her blow out her candles at the splash pad but it was just too windy. We did it when we got home. I'm not sure why we had her sit on the couch for it though.

The next morning I took her to a little princess party at our local rec center. She got to walk the red carpet with the Miss Teen girl and other princessy stuff. It was worth the $8 and 1 hour of my time. She had fun and it lessened the guilt of not being there for her on her birthday morning so we were all winners.

I sure love this Catie Bug of mine. She's something special that's for sure.

Don't try talking to her about kindergarten though. Whenever I try she gets tears in her eyes and tells me she doesn't want to talk about it. We're in for some good times ahead. Woo hoo.

Thanks for inviting us! We had so much fun, and it looks like my kids are on their last leg in the picture at JCW's. ;)
