I love Frog and Toad. I remember reading their books when I was a little girl. When Cate picked this for her bedtime story a few nights ago I told her so. She loves it when she picks books that I read when I was little. And if I tell her a certain book is one of my favorites she picks it over and over and says every time, "It's your favorite, Mom!"
Frog and Toad Forever has 4 chapters. The first is about Toad's list. He writes things down and then crosses them off. First on his list, wake up. Then eat breakfast. Next get dressed. (I laughed out loud a little because he wakes up and decides he needs a list. Then he writes wake up and crosses it off. Isn't it a great feeling to realize that you've accomplished something before it even made it onto your list? Ha.)
Cate was inspired by Toad. She wanted asked me to help her make a list. So I did.
I'll have you know she checked off that last box at 11:18 in the morning, only 3 hours after making the list. She's a quick worker. Although I do believe she cheated because I don't remember any surprise.
I think my favorite chapter in the book was the one about the cookies. Toad baked them. He brought some to Frog's house. Of course, they were the best cookies they'd ever eaten so they ate a lot (sounds familiar). Then they decided they'd better stop or they'd get sick. They decided to eat one last cookie before stopping (sounds familiar). And then they ate one last cookie again (sounds familiar again).
They decided they needed will power so they put the cookies in a box, tied string on top and stuck it on a high shelf. Toad pointed out that putting the cookies on the shelf in a box was not a good solution because they could just climb up and get it (he's a smart one, that Toad). They decided to take the box outside and let the birds eat all the cookies (kind of like how I give away goodies to all my neighbors because I have a lot less will power than I'd like).
The birds carried all the cookies away, just like they hoped. Toad was sad. Frog reminded them that they didn't have cookies but look at all the will power they did have. And then my favorite part of the story (and I actually laughed out loud when I read it to Cate),
"You may keep it all, Frog," said Toad. "I am going home now to bake a cake."
Awesome. I think Toad and I could be best friends.

And just a cute little picture of my Cate because I love it. (Thanks, Aunt Judy)

I so love this. I need to find myself a good, antiquey version of that book to frame. I am just like Toad. :)
I am Toad. Seriously. Those are my favorite books ever because I relate to them beyond what is normal. Love them.
I think Toad and I could be best friends too, that is awesome!!
I really do love reading your blog! Entertaining, beautiful pics. (Some of my grandchildren and others I care about.) Did I get the punctuation right?
Nine on the ninth is always fun.
We love those books. It has been really fun to have Savannah get into chapter books, and she will read to Devin...which is a total bonus.

I see that book and the song blares in my head for days. Too many 1st grade programs.
