fun is totally subjective

"Mama, let's just not clean up. Let's have fun! And decorate!"

Danny's response yesterday afternoon when I declared the dining room table a big fat mess.
The sequins were scattered to both ends of the table.
For every one sequin that actually got glued onto the paper,
four more were dropped on the floor.

And there they have stayed.

It's been a little over 19 hours since I took those pictures of Danny.
Those glue puddles he made still haven't dried.
The sequins are still on the floor.

Cate got in on the fun this morning.
She used a glue stick.
I wiped sequins off her hands three times before suggesting she move on to something else.

Somebody out there be proud of me, please.

My table is a mess.
My floor is a mess.
My kid is a mess.

But by golly, I had fun (at least Danny's idea of fun)
and "decorated" with my kid
instead of

folding laundry
doing dishes
scrubbing toilets
or
frittering away my time on the computer.

I'm proud of me.
And now I'm going to vacuum.

I'm definitely proud of you Cathy. As I started this post, my first thought was, "I wish I was that awesome of a mom."

YAY! I'm way proud! They'll remember the fun time creating with you way before they remember having a clean floor.

Messes are good. Imperfection is good! Creativity is awesome!

(My 2nd graders would choose to play with glue above almost all else! The creative stuff they did with it was cool. Who knew!?)

Yep, you rock. Definetly the better choice. And, you´re not alone. Our house is a mess, too. But we just built a nice metro between the bedrooms :)

I am very VERY proud of you! I pray all of the time that I will hear utterances like the one at the beginning of your post from my daughter someday.

I'd like to be you when I grow up. I'm one of those {recovering} anal-retentive type-A personalities that has to physically restrain myself from fluffing pillows as soon as someone gets up off the couch. It's sad. I'm SO impressed, SO proud...and SO inspired!
You rock!
